Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has reportedly informed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of his desire to remain with the Red Devils.

The England international struggled to force his way into the Norwegian's plans during the first half of the 2020-21 season, but he proceeded to reignite his career on loan at West Ham United.

Lingard struck nine goals and assisted five more in 16 appearances as David Moyes's men secured Europa League football, and the Hammers are understandably keen to sign him on a permanent basis.

However, The Sun reports that Lingard has instead told Solskjaer that he sees his future at Old Trafford, and he has also informed his friends of his decision.

The report adds that Lingard is not totally opposed to a permanent move at West Ham, though, and the potential arrival of Jadon Sancho would hinder his game time at Old Trafford next season.

The 28-year-old remains contracted to the Red Devils for another 12 months, but he has supposedly been offered a new deal by the club.

It is frustratingly ironic that about the only thing of note he's done since going back there is scoring the winner against us.

He would rather get splinters on his arse on the bench in the hope that he'll get a 10 minute camio playing for the Mancs at some point rather than come to us and playing week in, week out.

Let's get someone in that appreciates the shirt and move on.

I’d like to think that we’ve got someone lined up and will get them early on in the window as we need someone in ASAP to stop the rot that’s set in. After all we’ve needed a striker for over a year now.

Then again this our board so I expect no ones been pencilled in and we’ll fuck about with lingard for a month only to be told that he’s staying put.

If it happens the fee will be undisclosed

So 6 months wages on 100K is £2million and probably £5million I should coco

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
A year and a half ago we had a 1st choice striker who'd scored 8 goals in the last 7 games of the season and a £45m backup striker in Haller, so it wasn't a priority the way it is now.

A striker was our priority a year and a half ago.

Seeing as we have 6 attacking midfielders and only 1 striker (who is himself an AM really) I think the answer's pretty fucking obvious.

Re: Jesse Lingard 'wants to stay at Manchester United'
Would you take him over a striker in January as he has proven what he can do or would you rather we take a punt on a striker ? Obviously both would be class just can’t see it happening due to the cb crisis

I guess the Primark thing means it looks like a bargain but after the first couple of outings and a wash it looks a bit cheap and off colour...

At first I took Solskjaer's post match as 'he's staying, he wants to and we can use him'

But upon reflection it could just as easily be taken as a sales pitch/big up to keep the price up for people in the market for him.

You can but they’ll only insure and pay out against the value of his contract. Past that you can’t put a number on what he will or won’t earn.

If he had his leg amputated tomorrow the insurance would pay up his contract.

He’ll get a lot of money if he signs now as well.

Plenty of players will go into the last year of their contract, but I can’t think of one who will then be loaned out by their parent club.

He will get a LOT more money if he sees out his contract, plenty of players risk it.

.....and don't think I'm desperate for lingard to return, I'm not as we need a striker/centre back far more but they'll ride this latest distraction as it keeps the easily pleased thinking they care

Agree, its probably part of Man U's negotiating tactic. Is he really worth 25m to Man U? Probably not, because they don't need to replace him and they have at least 3 others who can play that role.

Would he be worth it to Leicester, Spurs or another club in the top 10 looking for some goals and creativity? Possibly.

Why is it significant that his knickers come from Primark?
